capitol hill recommendations?

topic posted Mon, February 23, 2004 - 6:39 PM by  Nick
Usually when I have sushi it's in belltown: Saito's, Wasabi (yeah, yeah-- complaints noted.) Anyone have a recommendation for a good place around Broadway or perhaps 15th? Preferrably not too upscale/expensive.

Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation. I tried Aoki this evening. The Albacore, Maguru, hamachi, and spicy rolls were outstanding. And the price was very reasonable. The salmon sushi had a smoked flavor and a texture of hot dogs... That was the only down side.

I have to say I was highly deceived by Aoki (and the only reason being because they ONLY have smoked salmon, lightly smoked or not it still not fresh, and I've got to have my fresh salmon).
The fact that they don't even have fresh salmon if you specifically ask for it ended my relationship with Aoki right there and then (ohhh okay maybe I was in a bitchy mood that night but hell!!... _end of rant.)

      cheap + broadway = hana.

      :)

Yeah, Aoki is really the only option. Hana?

    Anyway.

The only problem with Aoki are their hours. When are they open? I went by last night, and it was closed. Friday night? What's up with that? It's open sometimes, closed others. That said, the spinich salad is damned good - ask them to do a spinich salad and avocado. Damned good. Damned good.

Hana's is pretty good, decent price. Haven't been to Aoki

Just ate at Aoki for the first time tonight. It was really yummy. Their age dashi tofu was wonderful, as was the garlic butter rice. All the sushi we had was fresh and delicious.

I've lived on the hill on and off for many years and I'm surprised I'd missed this one. I'll be going back, that's for sure.
